FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- With a decision from Judge Richard M. Berman on the NFL’s case against New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady expected soon, the player most affected by the news smiled as he entered the locker room Tuesday afternoon and noticed a large gathering of reporters around his locker.

Then Jimmy Garoppolo said Tuesday was no different than any other.

“We’re going about our business as usual,” he said, noting Thursday’s preseason finale against the New York Giants.

On Monday, when Brady was in court, Garoppolo received expanded repetitions.

“It was good, it was good,” he relayed. “Whenever you get the chance to get the added reps or whatever it may be, with the first team, it’s always a positive.”

Garoppolo, in his second year out of Eastern Illinois, described his mentality going back to spring practices.

“You have to come into this whether you’re a starter or backup with a starter mentality,” he said. “You never know when your number is going to get called.”

Garoppolo hasn’t missed a practice this year and played in 158 snaps over three preseason games. Brady has missed three practices and taken 43 snaps in preseason games. Berman's decision is expected by the end of this week.

Garoppolo feels he’s received enough first-team work.

“Yeah, Coach does a great job of mixing guys in -- first, second, third, whatever it may be. You play with a bunch of guys and get used to guys, their style and whatnot, and you just have to make the best of it really,” he said.
