FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the team found plenty of positives while reviewing film of the Buffalo loss on Monday at Gillette Stadium. They were simply outweighed by the negatives.

"I think there were a lot of positives in the game, just not enough," Belichick said. "There were too many negative things that overrode them. ... It was a competitive game, they just made more plays than we did."

Devin McCourty's late-game tackle on Fred Jackson.Maybe the most interesting nugget was Belichick suggesting that Patriots second-year cornerback Devin McCourty made the right play when he tackled Bills running back Fred Jackson at the 1/2-yard line on a play that was originally declared a touchdown before video review. By not allowing Jackson to score, the Bills were able to run down the clock before kicking a winning field goal as time expired in a 34-31 triumph.

"I think the right play happened," Belichick said. "I think Devin did what he would instinctively do. I wouldn’t second-guess him on that."

Belichick did say that, in general, there were times when you would allow the opponent to score (and, heck, if Buffalo had tried to do that instead of kneeling out the clock Sunday, the Patriots would have surely let them into the end zone).

Belichick said, overall, there was some bad coaching and bad play on the field (Jackson's big late-game catch and Scott Chandler's third-quarter touchdown two examples he touched on). Asked about the pass interference penalty on Sergio Brown that negated Josh Barrett's fourth-quarter interception, Belichick referred reporters to the officials for any explanation on the call.
