Perry Jones (knee) misses second practice

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Boston Celtics forward Perry Jones, an offseason addition fighting for a roster spot, missed his second day of practice Friday with what the team termed right knee soreness.

Jones wore a large wrap over his knee while observing practice Friday and the team did not give an immediate timetable for his return to practice. The Celtics said he will travel to Europe with the team in advance of two preseason games overseas next week.

Jones, 24, acquired from the tax-shedding Oklahoma City Thunder in July, has a history of knee issues and reports suggested that his draft-day slide to No. 28 in 2012 might have been related to the health of his knees. Jones underwent right knee surgery in the summer of 2014 and missed a month last season with a right knee injury -- this after a strong start for an Oklahoma City team playing without its stars.

The Celtics have 16 guaranteed contracts and must shed at least one before the start of the regular season. Jones is an intriguing talent with athleticism that Boston sorely lacks on its roster, but he'll have to be healthy to make a strong push for a final spot.
