Practice: Green set to debut vs. Toronto

WALTHAM, Mass. -- It was a quiet day in CelticsLand with the league's announcement that the team will play in a 44-minute test game on Sunday in Brooklyn drawing more buzz than anything emanating from inside the practice gym. Here's a handful of nuggets from the team's pre-practice access:

Green likely to play vs. Toronto: Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Jeff Green appeared to respond well to his return to practice on Monday after missing 10 days due to a left calf strain. Barring a setback, Green is expected to make his preseason debut on Wednesday night when the Celtics host the Toronto Raptors in Portland, Maine.

El Hombre Reconstruccion: Stevens reported no initial complications after second-year center Vitor Faverani underwent a second knee surgery on Monday in Spain. "There was a lot of back-and-forth with regard to how the surgery went and how he is doing, the expected timeline, and all those types of things," Stevens said. "A full recovery is expected and, from everything that I know, within that same [6-8 week recovery] time frame that we talked about. That was the only thing [discussed], getting down exactly where we go from here from his recovery standpoint." Pressed if Faverani's roster spot was discussed at all by team brass, given Boston's overcrowded roster, Stevens said, "Not at all."

Rondo update -- not: Rajon Rondo, sidelined by a broken hand, remains a popular topic. Asked for an update on his All-Star point guard, Stevens said, "He’s doing the same that he’s been doing. We've increased his conditioning within workouts. So what we’ve done, the last couple days, we’ve actually worked him out with a couple of other guys early and in a small group. He’ll do all of the non-contact stuff in our [team practice], which today will be most of the workout. That’ll be good. He’s getting there, it’s just a matter of he can’t be involved in contact."

No talk of cuts yet: The Celtics still have 20 players on their roster, three of whom are invitees that are expected to land with the Maine Red Claws, but no cuts appear imminent as Boston has battled injuries. "We haven’t even talked about [roster cuts] and one of the reasons we haven’t talked about it is because we’ve been low on bodies," Stevens said. "The other day, we needed every one of those guys to play. And it’s great for them to get this experience in the exhibition season. It’s great for us to get to see them. We have to get our players that are going to play the most an appropriate amount of minutes and the appropriate amount of rest over these [final] four exhibition games."

Sloppy return to court: Stevens said the Celtics weren't particularly crisp while getting back to work on Monday, but he expected that. "It wasn’t a great, great practice," Stevens said. "But that’s pretty typical off of lots of traveling and then a day off. We had a high school coach and a couple college coaches here [Monday] and I said, 'No matter the age, that first day off then practice always gets you.' It’s the same way at every level. Hopefully we’ll get better at that. But that’s why you also come in. A lot of times after a back-to-back, you come in and do a shootaround [before the next game] to get kind of rewired and get ready to play that night."
