Although Dan Persa tweaked his surgically repaired right heel Saturday, the Northwestern quarterback doesn't expect to miss next week's game against No. 19 Michigan. Persa left Saturday's loss to Illinois in the fourth quarter and didn't return for the Wildcats' final few offensive series. The senior threw a career-high four touchdown passes before his exit.
"I got hit when I was running, and I felt some pain at the bottom of my heel, and the top of my toe started to stiffen up," Persa said. "In the past, that's when setbacks have happened. It was a tough decision. It's tough when you want to go back in, and the same time, you don't want to risk another injury."
Asked about his prognosis for next week, Persa replied, "I feel fine. I'm sure I'll be fine." Northwestern showed today that it needs Persa to use his legs, so his prognosis depends on his response to treatment the next few days. But it doesn't sound like the setback is too severe.
