INDIANA

Who’s out: Brian Knorr, defensive coordinator; Larry McDaniel, defensive line

Who’s in? Tom Allen, defensive coordinator; Mark Hagen, defensive line

Notes: Knorr and McDaniel spent just two years with the Hoosiers. It didn’t work, an all too common outcome for Indiana on defense. So next up are Allen and Hagen, both Indiana natives. Allen arrives from South Florida, where he coordinated the defense after coaching linebackers at Ole Miss for three years. Hagen, who formerly worked under Kevin Wilson at IU, spent the past three seasons at Texas A&M.

MARYLAND

Who’s out? Randy Edsall, head coach; Mike Locksley, interim head coach and offensive coordinator; Keith Dudzinski, defensive coordinator and inside linebackers; John Dunn, tight ends; Lyndon Johnson, outside linebackers; Keenan McCardell, wide receivers; Greg Studrawa, offensive line; Chad Wilt, defensive line; Terry Richardson, running backs; Darrell Perkins, defensive backs

Who’s in? D.J. Durkin, head coach; Mike London, associate head coach and defensive line; Pete Lembo, assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and tight ends; Scott Shafer, defensive coordinator; Walt Bell, offensive coordinator; Dave Borbely, offensive line; Aazaar Abdul-Rahim, defensive backs; Matt Barnes, linebackers; Chris Beatty, wide receivers; Anthony Tucker, running backs

Notes: Durkin, the 38-year-old former Michigan and Florida defensive coordinator, brings an impressive mix of experience and youth -- both to the head coach’s chair and to his staff. Top lieutenants London, Lembo and Shafer come with 14 years of FBS head-coaching experience at Virginia, Ball State and Syracuse, respectively. They provide instant credibility. Tucker came with Bell from Arkansas State; Beatty and Borbely came from Virginia with London. And youth is served with Barnes, a support staffer at Michigan last year, and Abdul-Rahim, who filled a similar role at Alabama.

MICHIGAN

Who’s out? D.J. Durkin, defensive coordinator; John Baxter, special teams coordinator

Who’s in? Don Brown, defensive coordinator

Promoted: Chris Partridge, linebackers and special teams

Notes: Despite losing Durkin, who takes over at Maryland, the Wolverines may have actually traded up with Brown, considered one of the top defensive minds in the country. He spent the past three years at Boston College. Baxter returned to USC, where he coached from 2010 to 2013. So Jim Harbaugh promoted recruiting coordinator Chris Partridge to coach linebackers, who were handled by Durkin last year, and special teams. Reports surfaced Thursday that Michigan plans to hire former Harbaugh assistant Jimmie Dougherty from San Jose State, though his spot remains unclear as no full-time coaching job appears open for the Wolverines.

MICHIGAN STATE

No changes

Notes: It’s been an uneventful offseason for coach Mark Dantonio, save for the loss of quarterback Connor Cook and other seniors who contributed to Michigan State’s Big Ten championship. That kind of turnover, of course, is unavoidable. Four of the Spartans’ nine assistants, including co-defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett and co-offensive coordinator Dave Warner, have worked for Dantonio since his arrival in 2007.

OHIO STATE

Who’s out? Chris Ash, co-defensive coordinator; Tim Hinton, tight ends and fullbacks

Who’s in? Greg Schiano, defensive coordinator; Greg Studrawa, offensive line

Moved: Ed Warriner, offensive coordinator and tight ends

Notes: Hinton, a veteran in the business who came to Ohio State from Notre Dame in 2012 to work for Urban Meyer, remains on staff as executive director of football relations and special assistant to the head coach. Warriner, the play-caller who moved from the sideline to the press box late last fall, takes on the tight ends and gives control of the offensive line to Studrawa. Studrawa spent the past two years at Maryland, the seven seasons before that at LSU, and coached for Meyer at Bowling Green in 2001 and 2002. Ash left to take over at Rutgers, opening a spot for Meyer to make a splash hire in Schiano, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rutgers head coach.

PENN STATE

Who’s out? John Donovan, offensive coordinator; Bob Shoop, defensive coordinator; Herb Hand, running game coordinator and offensive line

Who’s in? Joe Moorhead, offensive coordinator; Tim Banks, co-defensive coordinator and safeties; Matt Limegrover, offensive line coach

Promoted/moved: Ricky Rahne, passing game coordinator and tight ends; Brent Pry, associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers; Terry Smith, assistant head coach and cornerbacks

Notes: A casualty of Penn State's offensive woes, Donovan was fired. Shoop left to take the same post at Tennessee. Hand also bolted for the SEC, taking the O-line job at Auburn. Moorhead comes from Fordham, where he ran a successful up-tempo offense as the head coach. Banks joins the Nittany Lions from Illinois, and Limegrover from Minnesota after Tracy Claeys cut ties with the longtime assistant under Jerry Kill. Rahne will again coordinate the passing game, but he hands the quarterbacks to Moorhead and will work with the tight ends. Pry and Smith received new titles in the wake of Shoop’s departure.

RUTGERS

Who’s out? Kyle Flood, head coach; Norries Wilson, running backs; Ben McDaniels, offensive coordinator; Joe Rossi, defensive coordinator; Phil Galiano, special teams and tight ends; Mitch Browning, offensive line; Anthony Campanile, wide receivers; Jim Panagos, defensive line; Bob Fraser, linebackers; Darrell Wilson, defensive backs

Chris Ash, head coach; Drew Mehringer, offensive coordinator; Jay Niemann, defensive coordinator; Vince Okruch, special teams coordinator; AJ Blazek, offensive line; Shane Burnham, defensive line; Bill Busch, defensive backs; Aaron Henry, assistant defensive backs; Zak Kuhr, running backs ; Jafar Williams, wide receivers

Notes: Ash cleaned house upon his arrival from Ohio State. While not as flashy as the new staff constructed at Maryland, this group has its share of appeal -- led by Mehringer, a top recruiter and the receivers coach last season at Houston. Niemann spent the past five years in charge of the defense at Northern Illinois. Okruch and Busch came with Ash from OSU, both working last year in quality control, and Busch previously worked at Wisconsin and Nebraska. Burnham has coached since 2009 at Iowa State, where he spent time with Mehringer and Ash. Henry played for Ash at Wisconsin. Williams spent the past three years at Purdue. Blazek comes from Western Illinois, and Kuhr from James Madison.
