Penn State and Notre Dame haven't faced off on the gridiron since 2007, but that didn't stop the Nittany Lions from taking a shot at their former independent rivals on Wednesday.
Penn State police dog Rudie was out on an explosives detection training exercise. Notre Dame liked the dog's name, but not the spelling:
@penn_state @PennStatePolice That's an awesome name for a dog! We prefer the spelling 'Rudy,' though!

Penn State made a point of nitpicking a certain famous sports movie's final scene:
@NotreDame @PennStatePolice Maybe, if the dog was offsides.

Who said there were no Notre Dame-Big Ten matchups this year?
In any event, it is refreshing to see a pair of buttoned-up schools loosen up a bit and engage in a good old-fashioned Twitter battle.
