Happy Fourth from the Big Ten blog

It's been a year full of fireworks in the Big Ten. A lot has happened since last Independence Day in the most American of college football's major conferences (Who else, after all, plays for a Heroes Trophy and a Freedom Trophy?).

Ohio State's somewhat unexpected championship run, Penn State's return to the postseason, Melvin Gordon's record-setting performances at Wisconsin, and an eventful offseason headlined by Michigan hiring Jim Harbaugh, who lives in an America where you are free to cross state boundaries, were all reasons to cheer. Media Days, the unofficial start to another football season, are fast approaching and with them comes the promise of another exciting year in the Big Ten.

In the meantime, we'll be taking the weekend to celebrate America here at the Big Ten blog. So, throw on your favorite Maryland alternative jersey, grab some sunscreen and head outside to fire up the grill. We'll be back to get ramped up for the 2015 Big Ten season next week. Stay safe, and see you Monday.
