Most exciting player: Maryland Terrapins

We’re taking a look at the most exciting player on each of the league's teams, a guy who is either so talented or productive (or both) that it's hard to take your eyes off of him during a game.

Up next: Maryland

Most exciting player: CB William Likely

It's not easy for a defensive player to earn the title of "most exciting player" -- but, then again, there aren't many defenders like Likely either.

The junior cornerback tied the conference lead last season in interceptions (6) and passes defended (15), tied for first nationally in picks returned for touchdowns (2) and finished third among B1G defensive backs in solo tackles (66). What really makes Likely stand out, though, is the fact that those incredible numbers tell only part of the story.

He was the playmaker on a defense sorely in need of one and seemed to excel at whatever Randy Edsall asked him to do. Consider his six picks, for example, in comparison to the three interceptions made by the rest of the team. And when he took over for Stefon Diggs on kick returns in the last four games, he dwarfed Diggs' average by finishing fourth nationally in yards per return, averaging a Big Ten-best 31 yards, compared to Diggs' 23.9 yards.

In a "rivalry" game against Penn State, he set the tone early by intercepting Christian Hackenberg in the first quarter and limiting top WR DaeSean Hamilton to just 42 yards in the game. Against Iowa, his 45-yard INT return for a TD proved to be the difference-maker in a 38-31 victory. And he notched an interception, forced fumble and added a 69-yard punt return touchdown against West Virginia.

The list goes on and on for Likely. But it all boils down to this: He's not the tallest at 5-foot-7 -- but he's fast, focused, and is the Terrapins' big-play magnet.
