Baylor running back signee Kameron Martin, one of the leaders of the Bears' 2016 recruiting class, does not plan to enroll at the school next week and has requested a release from his letter of intent, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com.

Martin had been committed to Baylor since July 2014 and signed in February, but the school's decision on Thursday to fire coach Art Briles motivated the four-star recruit to consider his other options.

Baylor has made no announcement regarding who will replace Briles as the interim head coach. Defensive coordinator Phil Bennett has been offered that role and is expected to accept, sources told ESPN's Jeannine Edwards.

The school also has not indicated whether its incoming freshmen will be released from the letters of intent they signed in February. Martin communicated with Baylor's staff on Friday, according to the source, and was encouraged to do what's best for him.

The Bears' incoming freshman class, a group ranked No. 17 nationally by ESPN, is scheduled to enroll at the school on Monday. The timing of Briles' sudden exit and the uncertainty of what comes next for Baylor has complicated matters for those freshmen.

Missouri, TCU and Texas are among the schools Martin would be interested in if he's released from his letter of intent, but the source said he has not yet been in contact with those programs.
