Predicting the 2015 season: Week 3

Over the next two weeks, we're making predictions for all 75 Big 12 games. We continue the series today with Week 3.

Oklahoma 48, Tulsa 13: Tulsa’s Philip Montgomery bested the Sooners in three of their last four meetings while at Baylor. This time, Lincoln Riley’s Air Raid reigns supreme. Tulsa has some tricks, but doesn’t have Sterling Shepard or Samaje Perine. Or much of a defense. This game gets out of hand quickly.

Kansas State 23, Louisiana Tech 20: Watch out for these Bulldogs. Led by a rejuvenated Jeff Driskel at quarterback, Louisiana Tech ties it up late in the fourth quarter of a back-and-forth battle. But Matthew McCrane knocks in the clincher from 45 yards to give K-State a 3-0 start.

Oklahoma State 45, UTSA 3: The Mason Rudolph train keeps on rolling, this time with a barrage of long passes to James Washington and Brandon Sheperd. The Pokes’ defense doesn't have much trouble forcing three-and-outs against an offense that ranked among the bottom-10 in FBS in scoring and yardage in 2014.

Arkansas 38, Texas Tech 35: Tech plays much more respectable run defense and doesn’t collapse the way it did in last season’s 21-point blowout, but Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams are still too tough of a tag team to stop and pull off a nail-biter.

Texas 31, California 27: Sonny Dykes’ squad wants a shootout and gets one in the first half, but Charlie Strong has some surprises up his turtleneck sleeves to slow down Jared Goff. When Tyrone Swoopes has an up-and-down start, Jerrod Heard makes a surprise cameo and finishes off the critical victory over Cal.

TCU 52, SMU 10: Gary Patterson shows mercy by pulling his starters after three quarters, but Trevone Boykin remains turnover-free and Aaron Green surpasses 150 rushing yards. Good luck keeping up with the Frogs and their faster-than-ever offense.

Iowa State 24, Toledo 10: Fortunately for the Cyclones, Toledo is too beaten up from a rough road loss at Arkansas to give ISU a fair fight. Sam B. Richardson’s steady start to the season continues with three touchdowns, though the run game remains shaky.
