Ravens start offseason workout program

The Baltimore Ravens take another step in their preparation for the 2015 season when they kick off their nine-week offseason workout program Monday.

Phase One of the program, which are the first two weeks, are primarily spent in the classroom and weight room. These workouts are all voluntary and have strict stipulations which are detailed in the collective bargaining agreement.

Here are some rules for Phase One:

  • Only full-time or part-time strength and conditioning coaches, who have no other coaching responsibilities with the team, are allowed on the field

  • No on-field work with players by head coaches, coordinators and position coaches

  • No footballs can be used with the exception of quarterbacks throwing to uncovered receivers

  • No helmets are permitted

  • Members of the coaching staff, including the head coach, can participate in classroom instruction and film study that can last up to two hours per day

Phase Two (May 4 through May 24) lasts three weeks and allows players to be on the field for drill work but no "team" 11-on-11 scrimmages. Phase Three (May 25 through June 21) spans four weeks and includes up to 10 organized team activities (OTAs) and one mandatory minicamp. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permissible.
