Ravens reserve CB Victor Hampton charged with DWI

Baltimore Ravens reserve cornerback Victor Hampton was arrested for driving while impaired in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday, police told WSOC-TV.

Hampton, 22, who was released after posting $2,500 bond, also faces speeding, reckless driving and open container charges. He has never played a game for the Ravens and was signed by the team to a reserve-future contract in January.

Police said Hampton's convertible Camaro was clocked traveling 100 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone at approximately 12:26 a.m. His blood-alcohol level was 0.10, higher than the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of North Carolina.

The trooper observed two passengers attempting to hide firearms under the front passenger seat when he approached the car, according to police.

Hampton spent time on the New York Giants' practice squad last season as an undrafted rookie. Some teams reportedly took him off their draft board because of character concerns.

His checkered history includes getting kicked off three high school teams as well as getting kicked off the South Carolina football team for breaking unspecified team rules. Hampton was later reinstated at South Carolina. He was arrested for underage drinking in February 2010 and was arrested in April 2014 following an alleged dispute with his sister.

His career with the Ravens could be a brief one. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said at the end of the season that the threshold of tolerance for off-field behavior has changed after five players were arrested last offseason. In January, the Ravens released nose tackle Terrence Cody while he was being investigated for animal abuse, even though his contract was set to expire in March.
