Putting percentages on Ravens' playoff scenarios

The Baltimore Ravens have a 28.6 percent of clinching a playoff berth in Week 16, according to numberfire.com.

This doesn't exactly inspire much optimism, especially when the Pittsburgh Steelers (63.6 percent) and Cincinnati Bengals (44.7 percent) have much better chances of doing so.

The Ravens have two viable scenarios of securing their sixth playoff berth in seven years (the third one involves the Ravens tying Houston):

  • A Ravens win in Houston coupled with the Steelers and Bengals both losing. According to numberfire.com, there's a 10.9 percent chance of this happening.

  • A Ravens win coupled with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers losing. There's a 17.7 percent chance of this occurring.

The Chargers play at the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night, so the Ravens will be rooting for coach John Harbaugh's brother to help with an upset.

On Sunday, the Ravens play at Houston and the Steelers play host to the Chiefs. On Monday, the Bengals play host to the Denver Broncos.

These percentages were determined by simulations based the website's internal efficiency metrics.
