It's time to click open our Baltimore Ravens' weekend Twitter mailbag ...
@jamisonhensley Will, Will Hill be back after this session?
— 2217✊ (@CxM_17) November 21, 2014
@jamisonhensley: The Ravens obviously like Will Hill enough that he has started the past two games at free safety. Secondary coach Steve Spagnuolo pointed out that the Ravens were impressed with how Hill broke up a third-down pass in the Ravens' last game against Tennessee. So, I would expect the Ravens to extend some offer to Hill. But it's not like Hill has played so well that there is going to be a huge demand for him. The fact that he could face another major suspension if he violates the substance abuse policy again will also cut down on interest. For that reason, it's reasonable to think the Ravens have a good shot at retaining him. The Ravens just aren't going to spend a lot. They have already made a significant investment at safety -- a first-round pick on struggling Matt Elam in 2013 and a third-rounder on Terrence Brooks in 2014 -- to commit much more at that position.
@jamisonhensley With the way Haloti Ngata has been playing lately, do you believe he has earned himself an extension this offseason?
— Preston Donakowski (@Preston_D) November 19, 2014
@jamisonhensley: The Ravens were already interested in signing Haloti Ngata to an extension, but the five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle definitely has the leverage with his resurgence this season. If he had a season like his previous two, the Ravens would've had a better chance at getting Ngata to agree to an extension similar to the one signed last year by Terrell Suggs ($16 million guaranteed on a four-year extension). Now, with Ngata making impact plays again, it's going to take more to get an extension done. Ngata, who will turn 31 after the season, is due $8.5 million in the final year of his contract (same salary as this season). The Ravens would prefer to reduce his $16 million cap number with an extension, but there isn't much of a threat of cutting him (unlike last year's situation with Suggs).
@jamisonhensley What about fundamentals/footwork at the QB position? Has Flacco improved? R.G.3 sure taking heat on this
— Barb Vann (@MasonChesser) November 20, 2014
@jamisonhensley: Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak stressed improving Joe Flacco's footwork this offseason. For the first six games, it looked like Flacco had improved in dropping back and was getting rid of the ball in rhythm. That hasn't been the case lately. Flacco has gotten into some bad habits recently with throwing off balance and not following through. I mentioned in a post this week that he was making awkward throws while jumping off his back foot against Tennessee. I'm interested to see if there will be a different Flacco after this bye.
@jamisonhensley The Ravens have a serious need at WR; why have they not been linked to Duron Carter at all?
— Brian King (@Kinger999) November 20, 2014
@jamisonhensley: I would disagree that the Ravens have a serious need at wide receiver. In fact, I would argue that this is still the deepest they have been at receiver in coach John Harbaugh's seven seasons in Baltimore. The Ravens are set with Steve Smith and Torrey Smith as their starters. Marlon Brown should get more involved in coming weeks, and Michael Campanaro showed flashes as legitimate No. 3 receiver when healthy. Plus, Kamar Aiken has gotten snaps at receiver and is valuable on special teams. There are bigger needs on the Ravens than wide receiver. That is why I can't see the Ravens pursuing a Canadian Football League talent like Duron Carter.
