Harbaugh congratulates Orioles' Showalter

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The fact that the Baltimore Orioles clinched their first American League East title since 1997 didn't go unnoticed by the Baltimore Ravens.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who has attended Orioles games this season, said he was "jacked up" by their accomplishment and even texted manager Buck Showalter.

"I can't wait to get upstairs to see if he texted me back," Harbaugh said. "He's not busy, is he?"

The last time the Orioles won the division, Vinny Testaverde was the Ravens' starting quarterback and a certain middle linebacker named Ray Lewis was in his second season.

When Harbaugh described what he liked about the Orioles, it sounded like he was describing a football team.

"That team is Baltimore," Harbaugh said. "I love their players. They're resilient, tough, hard-nosed and have the next-man-up mentality. The Orioles are the real deal."

In the Ravens' 19-year existence, the Ravens and Orioles have made the postseason in the same year once (2012).
