Texans release another 2013 draft pick

Once he was healthy, the Houston Texans acted swiftly.

Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said after Friday's practice that the Texans have released Trevardo Williams, a fourth-round draft pick just a year ago who never took a snap for Houston.

Williams' release makes four draft picks from the 2013 class who were cut without ever playing in a regular-season game. Offensive tackle Brennan Williams, receiver Alan Bonner and nose tackle Chris Jones also met the same fate, though Jones was released after last season's training camp and had a productive rookie season in New England.

Williams never really seemed to fit as an outside linebacker, partly because he was undersized. His health, though, meant he never even had the chance to learn and grow into it.

Only four picks from that class of nine remain on the roster -- first-round pick DeAndre Hopkins, second-round pick D.J. Swearinger and sixth-round pick Ryan Griffin are practicing. Sixth-round pick David Quessenberry remains on the active roster on the active/non-football illness list as he receives cancer treatment for non-Hodgkins T lymphoblastic lymphoma.
