There really is no such thing as bulletin board material anymore.

Teams are generally effusive about their opponents. Everyone is great. Everyone plays hard. Everyone is well coached.

No players or coaches will find anything from their counterparts to fuel the sort of false fires so many love to let burn.

Who can screw this peace up?

We can! Writers.

In particular, a big city columnist.

So while Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have already started the praise of the Texans, Dan Shaughnessy of The Boston Globe is free to speak more freely. And he did in today’s column.

The 2012-13 New England Patriots just became the first team in NFL history to get back-to-back byes before advancing to the conference championship game.

Could this get any easier?

I mean, seriously? The planets are aligned and the tomato cans are in place. The fraudulent Houston Texans are the only team standing between the New England Patriots and a trip to the AFC Championship game. All the Patriots have to do is beat the terrible Texans. One week from today. At Gillette Stadium.

The Texans shouldn’t need Shaughnessy to motivate them. I’ve got standard thinking on using an outside force like this for motivation: Look to your paycheck, your teammates and your fans. That and personal pride is all you should need to be inspired to play hard and well.

If the Texans need more than that and a potential trip to the AFC Championship to fire themselves up for Sunday’s game at Gillette Stadium, I’m a little sad for them.

But it’s the nature of the league and professional athletes these days. They almost crave disrespect so they can use it as kindling. Coaches want to show their players disrespect so badly, some go so far as to create it.

Gary Kubiak and the Texans don’t have to create that here.

A Boston sportswriter think the Texans are a “layup,” and “pure frauds.”

That’s right fellas, a writer said that. How dare he? If you weren’t going to give the Patriots your best before, I’m sure you are now.

I don't believe for a second Foster needs a columnist to give him extra motivation. But he reads those words and wants to prove they are wrong -- there is some human nature at work on at least some some level there.

Beyond that? I guess it makes for good conversation. I think it made for a good blog post.
