Ravens Camp Report: Day 3

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- A daily review of the hot topics coming out of Baltimore Ravens training camp:

  • Joe Flacco seemed to be bothered by some tightness in his lower back. The Ravens' starting quarterback didn't miss any snaps, but he stretched out his back in between his series. Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak said Flacco is "fine." Flacco was efficient in third-down situational drills and connected on long passes to Jacoby Jones and Steve Smith, who remains the most impressive wide receiver in camp.

  • Bernard Pierce, the Ravens' No. 2 running back, walked off the field with a team doctor with 30 minutes left in practice. The team didn't know of any injury. Pierce tweeted that he wasn't injured, but he later deleted the tweet. He's expected to be the Ravens' starting running back when Ray Rice serves his two-game suspension.

  • The biggest cheers from fans came when Rice broke a long touchdown run. He also played catch with a young fan when he was on the sideline. There have been a handful of fans each day wearing Rice jerseys to camp. Rice was suspended for two games for an altercation with then-fiancée Janay Palmer at an Atlantic City, N.J., hotel in February.

  • Backing up what he said earlier in the week, rookie inside linebacker C.J. Mosley played fast in the first contact practice of camp. On one of his first plays, he stripped veteran tight end Owen Daniels. It was a bad day for Daniels, who was stripped by safety Darian Stewart.

  • Terrell Suggs got the better of left tackle Eugene Monroe on a couple of plays. Suggs would've had a clean shot on Flacco but pulled up. "I don't want to get my coach fired," Suggs said after the play.

  • Right tackle Rick Wagner continues to look solid at right tackle. He held his own against Elvis Dumervil in team drills. Wagner's chief competition for the job, Jah Reid, has really slimmed down.

  • Rookie wide receiver Michael Campanaro showed off his quickness in catching passes over the middle. He's fighting for one of the last receiver spots.

  • It should be noted that Flacco and backup Tyrod Taylor have yet to be intercepted in the first three days of training camp.

  • Schedule: The Ravens practice on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET. It will be their last practice at team headquarters for the next couple of days. The Ravens have a open practice at M&T Bank Stadium on Monday night and get their first day off on Tuesday.

  • Injury wire: CB Lardarius Webb (back) missed his first practice but is not expected to be sidelined for an extended period. ... CB Dominique Franks (failed conditioning test) remains on the non-football injury list. ... NT Terrence Cody (hip) is on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. ... G Will Rackley (undisclosed) didn't practice for a second straight day.
