General manager Mike Maccagnan, coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey led the New York Jets' contingent Tuesday at the Florida State pro day, where they scouted a player that won't be available when they pick -- quarterback Jameis Winston.

Winston, the presumptive No. 1 overall pick, received generally positive reviews for his throwing performance at the workout. He made 102 scripted passes, about 30 more than a typical quarterback pro day. Many of the passes were thrown on the run, as Winston wanted to show critics it's not a weakness in his game. At one point, he appeared winded and missed some throws, but he rallied in a red zone drill at the end of the workout.

Based on their pro days, Winston left no doubt he has a stronger arm than Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 quarterback prospect. For the most part, Winston threw tight spirals with excellent velocity. But, as we all know, quarterbacking isn't a just a gun show.

Barring a change of heart, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to take Winston with the first pick. Team officials have said they're not concerned about his off-the-field issues. Asked why the Bucs should take him, he told reporters, "Because I'm the best player in the draft."

No one said he's bashful.

There's a good chance both quarterbacks will be off the board for the Jets, who own the No. 6 pick. Some experts see Mariota going as high as No. 2 to the Tennessee Titans -- or a team willing to move up in a trade. Could the Jets move up? It probably will be a cost-prohibitive move to go from six to two.

Nevertheless, they will continue to investigate. Maccagnan indicated last week he'd like to have a private workout with Winston. They already had one with Mariota.
