Dolphins add depth to defensive line

The Miami Dolphins already have one of the deepest and versatile defensive lines in the AFC. However, that didn’t stop Miami from adding another big body in the trenches.

Miami has agreed to a contract with free-agent defensive lineman Vaughn Martin, the team announced. Martin started 12 games with the San Diego Chargers last season and could be versatile enough to rotate between defensive end and defensive tackle in Miami's 4-3 defense.

“We are excited that Vaughn is a member of the Dolphins,” Miami general manager Jeff Ireland said in a statement. “He is an athletic player that we feel will make a positive impact and bring depth to the the defensive side of the ball.”

The Dolphins have a wealth of good defensive linemen. Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake is the anchor of the group, and defensive tackles Paul Soliai and Randy Starks, and defensive end Jared Odrick are all solid. Second-year defensive end Olivier Vernon also is a rising player. Miami now adds Martin to an already deep rotation.
