Report: Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland is safe

"Black Monday" is off to a furious start in the AFC East with changes already made in Buffalo and New York. However, things are expected to stay quiet in Miami.

Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reports Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland is safe. Miami finished 7-9 this year but made progress under rookie head coach Joe Philbin. Most importantly, the Dolphins developed rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill this season.

Dolphins fans have been down on Ireland since last year. Miami is 13-19 the past two seasons under Ireland's leadership. However, the Dolphins have the potential to make a sizable jump in 2013.

The Dolphins have five draft picks in the first three rounds and plenty of cap space next year to be major players in free agency. It will be one of the biggest offseasons in recent memory for the Dolphins, and Ireland reportedly will be in charge of making those decisions.
