College rivalries are hard to recreate anywhere else. So instead of trying, the Washington Nationals welcomed a huge area college rivalry to the ballpark, celebrating Virginia Tech and Virginia during College Rivalry Day.
There were specially chosen foods.
Wouldn't be #UVA #VT College Rivalry Day w/o these: Gus(like) Burger & turkey legs on the menu tonite, sec. 115 & 314 pic.twitter.com/uByk2kV49l

Specially chosen school celebs threw out the first pitches: Cavaliers basketball standout Justin Anderson and former Virginia Tech defensive tackle Darryl Tapp.

And, of course, the Commonwealth Cup made an appearance.

Not a bad touch of marketing to bring plenty of Virginia and Virginia Tech fans and alums out to the ballpark -- especially on a night when the Cavaliers were playing for the College World Series championship. That was unplanned, of course, but fit in perfectly with the theme of the evening.
