The Lakers aren't the first team to go with short-sleeve jerseys in the NBA, but they are the most famous. The team announced that their players will wear short-sleeve jerseys in ''several games'' next season. Oddly enough, despite covering more body area than traditional jerseys, the new jerseys are 26 percent lighter. We're not sure how this works, but our bets are on witchcraft.
Here's a sampling of what readers had to say in our Facebook conversation on the story:
- Michael Hoffman: "I think nash hits this on the head. the NBA needs to be able to sell jerseys, and tee shirts are a lot easier to sell than tank tops."
- Billy Barcs: "I would think that sleeves on Jerseys would open up the possibility of more fouls, no? It's just more stuff to get tangled up in."
- Rob Cutts: "I don't like basketball so I don't care, but those jerseys make a team look like a pick-up squad."
- Travis Houston: "I hate these jerseys with sleeves and think they are terrible. It's not a basketball jersey, it's a basketball shirt. Just because it uses the same type of material that jerseys do, the cut of it doesn't make it a jersey."
- Jonah Stacey: "To be honest.. let's stick with the tanks jersey instead of short sleeves.. that thing won't be popular and if the nba is selling this short sleeves I ain't buying it."
