Not everyone's all that impressed by Yasiel Puig. Heck, he's not even hitting the ball safely half the time and has made TWO errors. He's all hype. At least one major leaguer thinks that putting him in the All-Star Game would be cause for wailing and gnashing of teeth, as he's just had one good month. Said major leaguer (it's Jonathan Papelbon) may have a point, but it's not like Puig is just some guy who's had a hot month -- he's a highly-touted prospect who is giving off a potent "man among boys" vibe. We'd rather see him on the roster than a tired veteran whom everyone's seen play a thousand times before. That's just us, though. We have a short attention span.
A veteran insult?
Papelbon's point about Puig's lack of service time may be a good one -- we think he'll stick around, but he wouldn't be the first player to have one good month and then disappear.
Who gets a spot?
An All-Star roster spot is a bit like a Gold Glove award -- if you win one, you're irritatingly likely to win another, until you're winning on nothing but momentum and memory.
Best game?
MLB's All-Star Game matters competitively, but it's also plain weird as a baseball game -- all those substitutions, particularly among pitchers, make for a disjointed experience.
