Tyrann Mathieu played exactly zero downs of college football this season due to his suspension at LSU. Despite that, he's expected to announce he will enter the 2013 NFL draft. It's a bold decision for Mathieu, who re-enrolled at LSU in lieu of transferring to a lower-tier college football program. Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have him at about a third- or fourth-round pick -- good, but not what he was looking at when he was at his best last season.
A smart decision?
Mathieu is basically treading water at this point, relying on his outstanding performance last season to speak for itself.
Would you want him?
There's no doubt that Mathieu could help at least some NFL teams, but whether you'd want yours to take a risk on him is another thing entirely.
Draft position?
A bit undersized for an NFL defensive back, Mathieu is still incredibly talented, although teams may be wary due to his substance abuse issues.
