It's never good for a coach when the team's owner expresses confidence in the safety of the coach's job. There's usually a reason he says that, and it's never because the team is doing particularly well. Jerry Buss' vote of confidence in Mike Brown comes after a 1-4 start for the suddenly hapless new-look Lakers. Is Brown off the hook, or will he get the hook sometime before season's end?
Will Brown stick around?
Mike Brown might not have led the Lakers to a championship last season, but this version doesn't even look like a playoff team.
Who's most to blame?
Kobe Bryant is scoring a bit above his average, but the rest of the Lakers haven't been lighting it up across the board.
- Michael Scotts secretary: "But now that the Lakers have all this talent it's really a big deal. Mike Brown coaching the Lakers is a joke. This guy at best should be coaching the Raptors or in college somewhere. He is the sole reason the Lakers aren't winning. Fire him and hire a REAL coach. Phil Jackson could win a title with this team,"
- ddx27: "steve nash is not the answer for this team. they should've gotten an athletic pg. the last thing this team needs is some old injury prone player"
- beatboston4ever: "Mike Brown is the wrong coach for this team. Fire him now! The longer Buss waits, the more difficult it will be for the Lakers to win the division. If the Lakers win the next 2 games, so what? It means Brown is here longer. I see the Lakers at the break being under .500 with Brown as coach. By then it's too late to change coaches. Do it now!"
- Hattchlu: "Having played for Mike Brown for a little more than a season, Kobe now has a lot more respect for Lebron."
- 6_hoping_2_turn_7: "Lots of talent on paper- but they should be an inside out team. Kobe shooting more than 15 times a game isn't needed anymore, he's trying to hard. Just pass the ball. He's got the ability to create, start sharing the wealth."
