It's been a good couple of weeks for the beautiful game in America. First, the women's team eked out a gold medal against Japan in the Olympics, and now, the men have
beaten Mexico in Mexico for the first time, well, ever. Goalkeeper Tim Howard made some excellent saves, Michael Orozco Fiscal scored off a backheel from Terrence Boyd, and coach Jurgen Klinsmann was all aglow when stoppage time finally ran out. There was no real consequence to this friendly, but does the win signify a turning point in U.S. soccer?
A big deal?
The symbolic value of beating Mexico at home for the first time is undeniable, but how much of an effect will it really have?
2014 prediction?
Young players such as Brek Shea, who was instrumental in setting up the goal against Mexico, will be coming into their own in time for the 2014 World Cup.
Klinsmann's effect?
Jurgen Klinsmann's attempt to get the U.S. to play with a more aggressive style occasionally has paid dividends.
