Rich Franklin faced former Pride 205-pound titleholder Wanderlei Silva in a 190-pound catchweight bout Saturday in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, showing why no one should be quick to write him off as a leg... Read full story
Seeing as how much of you affliction wearing q u e e r s show up to the boxing boards I figured I stop by this mma board, but it's pretty dead in here. This is a board about the supposedly fastest growing sport in the world, right? I expected some pretty sweet mma conversations in here, but all I see is you mma meatheads still talking smack about boxing and questioning the fandom of others. You guys are pathetic. 334 Days ago
PkrBkr6813
Why do you bother coming on this board? Boxing has NOTHING left. One of biggest draws, just lost (regardless of controversy). The other is sitting in jail crying like a shool girl, after he beat up his wife. Those two won't even fight each other because of greed. The HW division is loaded with boredom, face it, boxing is dead. If they put every boxing match on PPV, you would see lower #'s than any PPV in history. Let's see how well Silva vs. Sonnen does, then you can come back here with your tail between your legs. 333 Days ago

nevermind the fact that boxing as a sport is over a century older than mma. Give mma time and it will supplant boxing easily. 333 Days ago
nycbleedsorange
exactly the point. 2 days after the event a total of 350 comments. and ppl are trying to pretend this nonsense is popular. im sure it did a whopping 300k ppv 333 Days ago

Saw this card at Bdubs last night with a few friends (im not paying for it pfft UFC 148 deserves that money) and they were pretty bored but i thought a few of the fights were very good. A lot of the matches were very anticlimactic in that it seemed the action would get rolling and then both fighters lose all sense of urgency in the later rounds. The middleweight TUF final suffered this because the 2nd rd was great but the 3rd they danced around for half the rd. Silva/Franklin was the same because the action in the 2nd was not repeated until the last minute of the fight. But from a technical standpoint i thought the card was very strong with some great ground battles. 334 Days ago

All the Russow fans were proved just how he is nowhere near title contention. I didn't buy his hype, he looked good against low end HWs in UFC. Werdume is a world class fighter and his past two fights his standup is finally getting good to watch. He was on a tear until JDS made his debut in UFC as a fill in, and shocked the world in one punch. I think Werdume might be ready to put on a good fight against him, and if it ever goes to the ground JDS will look like a turtle against him I'm sure. How crazy would it be if Werdume shocked the world against the champ. I guess we are seeing how StrikeForce heavies belong in UFC finally. 334 Days ago
snake6544
werdume won't be able to hold up against dos santos, in a striking battle, and you really don't know how good dos santos' ground game is, because he doesn't go there. werdume isn't world class. he's second tier and will likely stay that way. but he is a former UFC athlete, returning to UFC, so he's not proof of any quality in strikeforce. Cormier would be proof of that, should he show the same skill against UFC opponents that he used to destroy barnett. barnett likely gets a return to UFC, as well, if for no other reason than to bolster the ranks at heavyweight and give the up and comers more options. 333 Days ago
sammyknowsall
No...we are seeing UFC heavies earning a second chance. Brett Rogers, Big Foot, and even Kharitonov should never step foot in a UFC cage. 333 Days ago

The overall card turned out much better than it looked on paper. 5 finishes and couple close decisions. Not bad for a card filled with mostly unknowns. 334 Days ago

Maybe if TUF Brazil was aired in the U.S. sooner than a week ago people would be excited. I said seeing some young Brazilian fighters was interesting, people talk about TUF guys as "future superstars" but they end up being middle of the road fighters. The Brazil show I will be watching on Fuel, sorta lame since we already know who won the season. 334 Days ago

great job by franklin....had a game plan, had the discipline to stick with it,and the internal fortitude to withstand what he likened to fighting 'a tornado'. definite title contender 334 Days ago
snake6544
i wouldn't call him a contender, just yet. he beat silva, who is clearly on the down side of what was a pretty good career. if he doesn't get a guy out in the first try, there really isn't enough gas tank for a second. and a top striker will knock silva out most every time. he's been hit too much, over his career. and knowing now that he started out bare knuckle fighting in brazil explains a lot. franklin needs to beat a current contender before he deserves any real title talk. 333 Days ago

a rematch would be a better bout than the first meeting. Werdume had an opponent pull out and JDS stepped in, Werdume had no tape to see what his game was. Werdume also was very one dimensional at that point in time with horrible standup. He is a different fighter now, so I wouldn't be focused on the no.1 in the world being "so great nobody can touch him." Werdume is not an easy out for anyone, just remember that. 334 Days ago

all these injuries is making UFC boring
snake6544
and it's not like boxing ever has a fighter pull out for an injury or failed drug test, right? never happens.
let us know when you return to reality, behold. any combat sport will have competitors get injured in training camp. and given all the different methods of attack in MMA, it only stands to reason there would be more than in say boxing, where it's predominantly cuts and hand injuries. 333 Days ago

@jmayes16, i don't know why you are on here bashing mma and it's fans. How can you make a sweeping generalization about a demographic when you have no sample to pull from. I for one am an avid mma fan have an MBA and an undergrad degree in finance, graduating with honors while playing football. I'm pretty sure there are others in here like me and I'm sure there are idiotic fans on both sides. That being said, have stopped to think that many mma fans were originally boxing fans? I actually still enjoy the sport, but the fight the fans want to see never happens and it's so corrupted why watch anymore? Lastly, an elite mma fighter would beat a boxer 9 times out of 10 if it came to an anything goes fight, so to bash the fighters is plain ignorance. They fight with 4 ounce gloves, have to worry about getting KO'd, cut more often and having a limb broken. The fact you came to an mma board just to troll says a lot about your personality and to be blunt, you are probably a bit of a tool in real life so you come on here to validate yourself. Have a good one. 334 Days ago

over all i thought it was a boring PPV card. so glad i didn't fork over the money to pay for it. i've seen much more entertaining fight cards, free on cable. i don't believe franklin is going to be around much longer, though i do agree he beat silva, it's apparent he's looking toward the future a bit and i believe his heart is more in making movies these days. silva who was my favorite fighter during his PRIDE days, just isn't a factor any more. 334 Days ago
