Is anyone forgetting that big Nog got his arm all but broken off by Mir less than a year ago? Of course he's not ready to fight. He is still injured from his last fight, duh!!! Come on, his injury and pull out of PPV is no surprise to me

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't think he should have accepted a fight so soon after getting his arm snapped in the first place. He probably realizes that he's getting old and wants to get as many fights in as possible before he retires, but at the same time the body just might not heal at the same rate. Especially a snapped arm, which is a rather crucial body part to have for mma...

Add this to the long list of reasons why MMA may have already peaked. High PPV Prices Constant Injuries Suspensions Increase in decision decided fights (like it or not KO's sell tickets)

I so agree with you jonboy. I think we are hearing it more because of the title holders who are getting hurt. I think once the health of the title holders is better the cards will be so much better.

The UFC is no different than the NFL. Injuries happen. You can't do much to prevent them. It stinks that fight cards get changed around, but its life. Once all these guys are healthy there are going to be some great cards coming together. We wouldn't even be talking about this as an issues if these injuries didn't happen to title holders. The fact that Aldo, Cruz and GSP all pulled out is making it worse. Otherwise the UFC would just continue to reshuffle.

Agree with most of your points however with MMA still in the growing stages these are things you don't need to see happen, and right now they are happening in clusters. I love watching quality fights and truly hope it can become a mainstream sport, but it has a long way to go.

Some good points you made, but there is a counter to all of them. PPV prices are high but there is also an increase in free fights, especially the prime time FOX cards. Injuries are constant, but as more fighters join the organization there are more and more compelling replacements to chose from. Suspensions are what it takes to build the sports credibility, hopefully fighters will learn that they can't get away with cheating any longer. Increase in decisions isn't all bad, when KOs or TKOs happen they're all the more exciting because they don't happen all the time.

At this rate UFC will go back to being irrelevant in a hurry.

ESON does have a good MMA Team that covers it. (if you know where to find the covergae that is) at this point in time the demographics that ESPN covets from their male viewers isn't that big of an MMA fan just yet (not that they are even TRUE boxing fans either) the demographic ESPN covets is the fan that is watching Baseball, Football and Basketball (to a certain degree even golf and hockey) ESPN itself is still not very knowledgeable when it comes to the UFC, they have a lot to learn sill that's for sure. It took them a while to really understand that NASCAR had a huge fan base that was also interested in other sports, therefore the coverage of NASCAR is pretty big on ESPN Sportscenter these days. I think most big media outlets still feel UFC fans are just punk kids (young males) with all there silly tattoos and and TapOut t-shirts that love the sport due to the violence and are really not the channels demographic they are looking for, I think the sport is viewed as another form of pro wrestling to a certain degree in their eyes and that the fans are just a few years past from their days of watching the WWE (which isn't all that unfair to say). in time we will get to see the UFC become a more "main stream" sport...but do we really need that to happen? do we need to see highlights on Sportscenter to legitimize the sport we enjoy? probably not but it would be kinda nice to have them at least recognize the sport on a whole and not just some growing fad.

ESPN is not the source of truth for MMA news. Far from it.

Just because ESPN doesn't provide much coverage for MMA, doesn't make it irrelevant. ESPN chooses what they will or won't cover because they are biggest sports outlet. However, they suck at what they do cover for MMA, and most real fans go to other sites that provide much more insightful information.

It already is to a degree. There is a reason UFC/MMA highlights rarely hit ESPN outside of their MMA show. As big as the hardcore fans think MMA is, to the casual fan it still ranks below boxing (which is a circus of its own), which is their biggest competition at the given moment. And whether people want to admit it or not, it is the casual fan who helps a sport grow.

NFL athletes make plenty of money don;t you agree? (more so the high profile players as well) and they get injuries all the time as well. They tear aan ACL and BAM! the entire season is gone for them. it happens...do as much steroids as they do and your tenants and ligaments will be stretched to the max as well....that's how they get these little tears and strains, there joints are stretched to the max....a otherwise simple pull on any muscle will actually create a rip or a tear on someone who uses steroids as opposed to someone who doesn't. Running backs and receivers for instance, these guys work out DAILY and should be in tip top shape no doubt about it right? then why do they pull hamstrings like it's going out of style then? it's because they are straining their joints and there ligaments are like thread by this point which makes them susceptible to tears and and things of that nature. GSP...just look at him, he's a little guy by nature who for certain is on roids. (no roids do not actually make you all BUFF and stufff, they have roids that are for endurance and strength too...just look at Lance Armstrong for that)
