NEWARK, N.J. -- Tomasz Adamek recovered from a second-round knockdown, and defeated Travis Walker on Saturday at the Prudential Center.

With the five-round win, Adamek, 35, becoming something of a fan favorite in New Jersey, improved to 47-2 with 28 knockouts. The matinee card was scheduled around the best time to air a pay-per-view event in Adamek's native Poland.

Walker (39-8-1, 31 knockouts) sent Adamek to the ground early, but Adamek recovered in time to turn the tables. By the end of the second round, Walker, from Tallahassee, Fla., had been knocked down himself.

"I know and hear that Travis wants to knock me out," Adamek said at the prefight news conference, "and this would be the only way he could beat me. Wishing and actually doing are two separate things."

Well, Walker, 33, registered a knockdown, just not a knockout. Either way, in the end, it just wasn't enough.
